Banquet chair dimensions in cm: what is normal, and the one check most buyers forget
Seat height, width and overall height of banquet and wedding chairs in cm, from 14 solid-wood models and a standard steel banquet chair, plus a knee-room check.
The short answer
There is no official standard size for a banquet chair. But real chairs are close to each other. These are the numbers from our 14 solid-wood banquet and event chairs (source 1):

"Usual" is the median: half of the models are below, half above.
For comparison, a typical steel-frame banquet chair from a US catering supplier is 43 cm wide, 48 cm to the seat, 93 cm tall and 56 cm deep, and stacks up to ten high (source 2).
Width: the number that sets your guest count
Width is the measurement that varies most, and it matters most. At a round table, every centimetre of chair is multiplied by the number of guests.

A 60 inch (152 cm) round table gives each of 10 guests about 48 cm of table edge. A 41 cm Chiavari-style chair fits; a 49 cm upholstered chair does not. We worked through every common table size in how many chairs fit around a round table.
Seat height: higher than a dining chair
The usual seat height of our banquet chairs is 50 cm. Our dining chairs are usually 48 cm, and restaurant designers plan for about 46 cm (source 3; see our guide to restaurant chair and table dimensions).
The check most buyers forget: designers leave 25 to 30 cm between the seat and the underside of the table top, so knees fit (source 3). Dining tables are usually 74 to 76 cm high (source 3). Measure the underside, not the top: a table with a frame under the top has less room.

A 51 cm Chiavari seat at a 76 cm table with a thick top or a frame can leave less than 25 cm. That does not mean the chair is wrong: it means you should sit at your own tables with a sample chair before you buy a fleet. Check with the seat pad on, because a pad raises the seat.
Overall height and depth
- Overall height (83–97 cm for our models) matters for chair covers and for how tall a stack gets in your van.
- Depth is not published for most of our banquet models. Ask for it if aisles between tables are tight, because a deep chair pushed back from the table blocks the walkway.
Where RikoStyle fits
Our 14 banquet and event chairs are made in solid beech, in 8 frame finishes, and 11 of them stack (source 1). Each model page lists its seat height, width and overall height. If you need a size we do not publish, such as depth or how many stack on a trolley, ask us for that model.
